César Wonenburger (La Coruña, 1969) has a Law Degree (“Cum Laude”) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra of Santo Domingo and a Master’s Degree in Communication Media from the University of La Coruña. He studied music at the Conservatory of A Coruña and at a private level. He has experience in different areas of Law, until 1992 he worked at “Pellerano & Herrera” and “Pereyra & Asociados, Attorneys At Law”.
Since 2004 he has been the artistic director and responsible for the programming of the La Coruña Opera Festival, the oldest in Spain, later converted into the La Coruña Lyrical Season and the La Coruña Lyric Program. It has led to the realization of more than 60 operatic shows with some of the main singers, musical directors and stage directors on the international scene.
In 2010 he was appointed by the Xunta de Galicia as artistic director of the Xacobeo Classics Festival, which in 2011 was renamed Galicia Classics and has been responsible for the presentation in Galicia of the most important orchestras and chamber groups in the world.
Mr. Wonenburger has promoted many other productions of international rank. He has collaborated with great artists, and the operas and concerts he has presented have obtained important awards and recognitions.
He has been Technical Director of the “Master in Theater and Film Studies” at the University of La Coruña and has been an invited jury in multiple international singing competitions. A frequent lecturer and speaker at seminars on musical topics, he has been in charge and responsible for launching the first music cycles at the University of La Coruña and promoting the creation of the “Vocal Interpretation Course” for training of young singers.
In 2016 he created the cycle “Lírica Inclusiva” which is being developed with great success, and which takes opera to civic centers in La Coruña and places such as public shelters or centers for the disabled, such as the Down Coruña Association, for children and young people with syndrome of Down.
Mr. Wonenburger is also Advisor to the Sinfonia Foundation’s “Programa de Formación para Jóvenes Artistas”, a training program for young singers in the Dominican Republic.
