The outstanding soprano Teresa Pérez-Frangie, was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic and studied at the National Conservatory of Music of Santo Domingo, the Casals Conservatory and the University of Puerto Rico. She continued studies in Milan and Vienna, graduating from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
In Austria, she was part of the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera, invited by the famous conductor Hans Swarowsky. She has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, the National Symphony of Santo Domingo, the Haydn Orchestra of Austria, among others. Also, she has performed in recitals and opera productions in Italy, Germany, France, Venezuela, the United States, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, and the Caribbean.
As she passed through the stages of the world, Teresa Pérez-Frangie received countless accolades from the specialized press; thus, Opera News, from the United States, published on its pages: “Her voice is beautiful and wide”; the Wiener Zeitung, Vienna, published: “An event in itself was the performance of the soprano Teresa Pérez Frangie and her interpretation of the aria Pace, pace, by Verdi.”
During the last years of the 20th century, this prestigious artist served as the founding president and artistic director of Ópera de las Américas, producing many events, such as Homage to Verdi in 1997 and Aida in 1999, both at the National Theater of Santo Domingo. In addition, she has served as General Director of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra
After an extensive international career as an opera singer, Mrs. Pérez-Frangie is developing her acting career. She is currently working on various projects, including a New York University thesis film and a feature film in Spanish.
